The Kerrville I. S. D. Gifted and Talented Program, in a partnership of parents, teachers, and administrators, will recognize and serve the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of the gifted to enable them to reach their maximum potential in the classroom and community.

Program Goals

The Advanced Academic Department strives to:

  • Ensure that the curriculum includes appropriate levels of extension, enrichment, and acceleration to satisfy students' intellectual curiosity.

  • Offer a wide variety of learning opportunities which encourage students to refine their creative and problem-solving abilities.

  • Provide teachers with the current philosophy and methodology for working with gifted children.

  • Communicate with parents to promote children's social and emotional well being and confidence.

Highest Number of AP Incentives Scholarships Awarded in KISD
19173604.jpgStudents are being notified this week about the record number of AP Incentive Scholarships awarded at Tivy High School in Kerrville ISD. Seniors enrolled in AP English IV, AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP Economics received scholarships ranging from $150 to $200 per test. Established in 2005 by Dr. Dan Troxell to encourage seniors to take more of the rigorous AP exams, the AP Incentive Scholarship program participation has grown from 11 seniors to 47 this year. In addition, the number of tests passed by seniors increased from 12 in 2005 to 84. This year two students, Taylor Dowlen and Sarah Schlunegger, tied for the highest number of total scholarships. They each passed five AP tests to earn $950 a piece. For full story, click here.

Ellen Williams, the Kerrville Independent School District’s (KISD’s) Senior Director of Advanced Academics, was named the 2010 Regional Advocate for Region 20 by the Texas Association of Gifted and Talented (TAGT).  TAGT is the largest state organization promoting gifted education in the United States.  For complete story, click here.
