More Students Take Classes Than Ever Before
The number of students enrolled in the Alamo Colleges Greater Kerrville Center continues to increase each semester. When “The Center” opened in its temporary facilities on the HPMS campus in the fall of 2008, 124 students enrolled. Last week, the Center reported that it has 483 students enrolled for the fall semester of 2010.
Enrollment increases are attributed to several factors including the opening of the new permanent facility at Kerrville ISD’s Tivy Education Center in early February. Students like the convenience of having a local community college that is reasonably priced and centrally located. The increase in advertising, signage, and sound marketing by Alamo Colleges has attracted students not only from Kerrville, but the surrounding communities as well.
In addition to academic courses, technical skill courses such as a career mobility course for nursing students, food handler and food manager certification courses have been offered, custom designed to meet the needs of community businesses. The current fall 2010 enrollment shows 447 students taking academic courses and 36 in technical training. The chart below shows the academic enrollment increases by semester.|
